Here are a few things we've made.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijU3FzXiIH1SGAHs0QzV36Pi7oglXIGBiPAxJfmIBoO7OzCcSh9En5ciR51HwNjCAcBEYZPILMYQr-dxd_8BKss1-RnCbiWbeiltBUN-IeuBIh31ZFRfO3qZLPB6WxUHhIdg0DTSSGBNk/s1600-h/IMG_0107.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijU3FzXiIH1SGAHs0QzV36Pi7oglXIGBiPAxJfmIBoO7OzCcSh9En5ciR51HwNjCAcBEYZPILMYQr-dxd_8BKss1-RnCbiWbeiltBUN-IeuBIh31ZFRfO3qZLPB6WxUHhIdg0DTSSGBNk/s320/IMG_0107.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361060275970119634" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdyAAx8ztRBcgLvh37bnxIiusoBdu117t4nPcKqknp-DjHQIXS3NlhdNJDqdHD-AIX5p5RUhjy-IpLTSCsClJWDq6qg-BNzqC0gnPfBEd2Gfg8B4QriecVJnPAOf5VDtKWrLeCv1LpXNs/s1600-h/IMG_0185.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdyAAx8ztRBcgLvh37bnxIiusoBdu117t4nPcKqknp-DjHQIXS3NlhdNJDqdHD-AIX5p5RUhjy-IpLTSCsClJWDq6qg-BNzqC0gnPfBEd2Gfg8B4QriecVJnPAOf5VDtKWrLeCv1LpXNs/s320/IMG_0185.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361060734902597986" border="0" /></a>We'll be making all of our own table centerpieces. I borrowed some vases from my drama closet at school and we've decorated them with green ribbon. We'll be filling them with fresh daisies the day before the wedding. Simple, but should do the trick!<br /><br />For our escort cards, I tried to replicate something I saw in Martha Stewart's magazine.<br /> The picture is terrible, but if you click on it, you can get a better idea. The fabric and pins remind me a lot of my Grandma Love. I used to hang out in her fabric store and impress her customers with my knowledge of button colors (I was two years old). This little board is my tribute to her and a fun way to incorporate all of our colors into the escort cards.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMWVWrEljFbK8m8CWmw9lvyE2ZwqvBTiBDxymVAr1NU0ZBLeraQg5Tq2nDQODcLWYuggw_FbYkfRCWoacV-4Kr4tCT7Y8zNuQXOiCNCzAabgkkXF0p_LymcpMoKsF3Oa4bfs1GDDervE0/s1600-h/IMG_0187.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMWVWrEljFbK8m8CWmw9lvyE2ZwqvBTiBDxymVAr1NU0ZBLeraQg5Tq2nDQODcLWYuggw_FbYkfRCWoacV-4Kr4tCT7Y8zNuQXOiCNCzAabgkkXF0p_LymcpMoKsF3Oa4bfs1GDDervE0/s320/IMG_0187.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361060255941400722" border="0" /></a>This website has the "how to" on how to make this board...but I have to say, my template is much better and much easier to use. Thanks to everyone for making this such a great day!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicj-Iajpd_dkTX03xGXzjKJj2VmPlKEwjUVQhbZbSaHu1oUnVZox4duSC1w3irFhPiou9mNB4TkGda5Uk-IqfrEJf_WzmGL0POkCurUPGfCqw9qgNAzw2UtFeunU0nYZCe8GZN7yZJ8ho/s1600-h/IMG_0145.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicj-Iajpd_dkTX03xGXzjKJj2VmPlKEwjUVQhbZbSaHu1oUnVZox4duSC1w3irFhPiou9mNB4TkGda5Uk-IqfrEJf_WzmGL0POkCurUPGfCqw9qgNAzw2UtFeunU0nYZCe8GZN7yZJ8ho/s320/IMG_0145.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5360999260782317442" border="0" /></a>As I mentioned before, this was a "travel" themed shower. Each passenger...I mean...guest...received their invitation in the mail in the form of an airline ticket. I keep forgetting to bring my ticket over to scan, so I'll try to post a picture of it later. It was the cutest invitation I've ever seen!<br /><br />Jenny put together a collage of pictures and set up a mileage pole for all of the places I've visited ...and one I will be visiting VERY soon! Each gift had to represent a different area of the world, either by content or wrapping paper. It was really fun to see the creative ways my friends incorporated my traveling experience into these gifts! I'll post more about the shower later, but first, here's a quiz to see how well you can do guessing the countries (or states) these gifts represented. Good luck! (And no guessing for those of you who were at the shower...that's cheating!) :)<br /><br /><br />1. Salsa bowl, margarita pitchers, margarita glasses<br /><br />2. Wine glasses, Red Bicyclette Wine, Corkscrew<br /><br />3. Cheese slicer, cheese shakers, cheese grater, and beer cheese soup mix<br /><br />4. Splatter screen, bacon cooker, oil and vinegar holders, sink scraper<br /><br />5. An assortment of ales, beer steins<br /><br />6. Gravy boat, towels<br /><br />7. 101 Elephant Jokes (and fine china...but I wouldn't mix elephants and china)<br /><br />8. see picture below...<br /><br /><img style="width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj91uyDiW_Eoc8QCq8VOvoDPsa8T2diY2DdK6d_Ic5T4CohcW4-RgOmqP3w_9f7s3GJC4prGOeWkPU__2mUDOpiA8X8KOVI1ju3NqlvHk7Ojz_jANLm6NbBP9G28NMppuz3H4lJbdmwMuTa/s400/IMG_0160.JPG" /><br /><br />Bonus Question: I won't tell you what was in this bag, but the country was "Djibouti"...you can guess the gift on your own.<br /><br /><img style="width: 480px; They are cardboard tubes wrapped in brightly covered paper. To open them, two people twist and pull them like a wish-bone. The crackers are stuffed with a paper crown, candy, a motto, and a party toy. We thought what better way to to celebrate our wedding (Christmas in July) than to have crackers as our party favors.<br /><br />Danielle and a few of her girl friends setup an assembly line to crank out the crackers.<br /><br />Here are the empty tubes before being wrapped.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNAGRV7kMNE8kQsOO6adJ-UOJFrJAn_N9SjZ5jA3bjTpOP9cno_JKCJ6LDQleCLsTplc5HBlG4eM-cY5Y4bVkPrH-idtvKyr-yaFL9hVAINoVjCo1JcjSqUnlB0VRBlQu6D_zn9A0k-Dvs/s1600-h/IMG_0337.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNAGRV7kMNE8kQsOO6adJ-UOJFrJAn_N9SjZ5jA3bjTpOP9cno_JKCJ6LDQleCLsTplc5HBlG4eM-cY5Y4bVkPrH-idtvKyr-yaFL9hVAINoVjCo1JcjSqUnlB0VRBlQu6D_zn9A0k-Dvs/s320/IMG_0337.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5352953188795392242" border="0" /></a><br />Here are Sarah and Jackie measuring and cutting ribbon for the ends and paper for the tubes.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRSGapM872yWhEnt2WOrEqPhc9IIBcXf_yENvJgyFul_UkBnuuEV8oysNSnNGdqxSMxU8OPZ7u5XEj2_9PVfwpgMY2HiVW1HF8DxEURRdbw6qYxGMyZwLMCjQL2opc1xaJx69zW9S4WLpH/s1600-h/IMG_0335.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRSGapM872yWhEnt2WOrEqPhc9IIBcXf_yENvJgyFul_UkBnuuEV8oysNSnNGdqxSMxU8OPZ7u5XEj2_9PVfwpgMY2HiVW1HF8DxEURRdbw6qYxGMyZwLMCjQL2opc1xaJx69zW9S4WLpH/s320/IMG_0335.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5352951781747709442" border="0" /></a><br />Next up, Jenny and Elisa are putting the final touches on the crackers. We managed to fend off the rain showers (mostly) to have a beautiful outdoor shower of our own in the Neely's backyard. Rita and Dick have been working so hard to plan this shower, so we are really grateful for them and all they do for us! Also, thanks to those of you who traveled many miles to spend the day with us. We had family come in from Grand Rapids and even all the way from Japan (!) to attend the shower. Thank you, everyone! We are truly grateful for gifts and your love.<br /><br /><br />We have literally hundreds of pictures to go through (we got a new camera), so we'll post more stories and photos soon! :)Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16869994566880972867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4626840406602910487.post-26822046569901308062009-05-17T19:37:00.010-04:002009-05-17T21:07:14.045-04:00Invitations!SPOILER ALERT! We sent out <span style="font-style: italic;">most</span> of the invitations a couple of weeks ago, but still have a few to send out. So if you haven't gotten your invitation yet because we don't have your address or you live in a crazy far away place like Japan or Germany :), don't read the rest of this post!<br /><br /><br />We decided to print our own invitations to save some money. This turned out to be a larger task than we anticipated, but we were an a well oiled, invitation-machine.<br /><br /><br />Invitation Station #1: Herbert and John printed the invitations. John and I designed the maps, chose the wording and picked a font. Then John made the invitations by working his magical computer skills and printing them on different sized cards. He even stuck on the daisies and assembled all the pieces together.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZNCkfYrnY2OmTL23FP1ypHz15PVCC4hYAX2l8nAI_IwhDs5loUWbu4muCA8ZQy-Npoos8nPqQBkupeTk2uurWQDaAAYmP3xGTPO2S3jSXskcnqokaaCk2rHG-JK8lovRlFYeCq9PzRfU/s1600-h/IMG_1178.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZNCkfYrnY2OmTL23FP1ypHz15PVCC4hYAX2l8nAI_IwhDs5loUWbu4muCA8ZQy-Npoos8nPqQBkupeTk2uurWQDaAAYmP3xGTPO2S3jSXskcnqokaaCk2rHG-JK8lovRlFYeCq9PzRfU/s400/IMG_1178.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5336951843820577794" border="0" /></a><br />Herbert....helped....sort of...<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoiri2U1spA02dRDCmNXLs-iVOFO7q5kXxAecgWm6RpO4kNRf5psYAsgZnse3R9UJ3ukzGRl7sag5EnXrcuV_N0WAeg80yqdjOfhvs3E_vCLHngpLBJVn-_U56kwpGam3w5DOJelQV1TU/s1600-h/IMG_1179.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 398px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoiri2U1spA02dRDCmNXLs-iVOFO7q5kXxAecgWm6RpO4kNRf5psYAsgZnse3R9UJ3ukzGRl7sag5EnXrcuV_N0WAeg80yqdjOfhvs3E_vCLHngpLBJVn-_U56kwpGam3w5DOJelQV1TU/s400/IMG_1179.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5336955592191326386" border="0" /></a>He wore his wedding shower bell to get in the wedding spirit...and then promptly fell asleep.<br /><br />Invitation Station #2: It was my job to address the envelopes with my super-fancy sharpie calligraphy skills. It took a few phone calls, mothers, grandma, and friends to complete the address list.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgM8P0mYNKOlocNg_ZYWHf8dHrKe0cvDrtmmlSDPLqs7oEyER4VtmopNHhI7NrkEi0tywLzjEhhTq0M7GQnOtFjmgdwJG0EG8gNpor9Sg3QdBN540AVzFHX_D-ofpNmWYjvLkgpwpf4lhw/s1600-h/IMG_0017.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgM8P0mYNKOlocNg_ZYWHf8dHrKe0cvDrtmmlSDPLqs7oEyER4VtmopNHhI7NrkEi0tywLzjEhhTq0M7GQnOtFjmgdwJG0EG8gNpor9Sg3QdBN540AVzFHX_D-ofpNmWYjvLkgpwpf4lhw/s400/IMG_0017.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5336958823580395378" border="0" /></a>This is what wedding planning looks like when your Maid of Honor lives 700 miles away. Jenny was on the phone (you can kind of see it between my cheek and shoulder) and we were working on the spreadsheet at the same time, miles away, from different computers. She'd add addresses to my list and I could see her working from my computer...technology is great!<br /><br /><br />I am really happy with how our invitations turned out. There were only four designs at Michael's and luckily we found one that was green and sort of fit our wedding theme. Everything was so beautiful and we had so much fun! We are lucky to have such supportive, loving, and funny family members. Thanks Grandma and Aunt B. for organizing the party and everyone else for filling the night with love and laughter. We had a great time!!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_On1XXdBfieuKBTxRWBOxFcFYwJS2_gJI8jnP9-nP_TsHgW5JtTt5L9nKZ0fMmayWFpv2RcrjEua1UxlxU9Zh-gd5bseFBIV7JTiOeoUfeghLUB9QG6yo66tOcaXorG1L4kS_FP15Rwg/s1600-h/IMG_1000.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_On1XXdBfieuKBTxRWBOxFcFYwJS2_gJI8jnP9-nP_TsHgW5JtTt5L9nKZ0fMmayWFpv2RcrjEua1UxlxU9Zh-gd5bseFBIV7JTiOeoUfeghLUB9QG6yo66tOcaXorG1L4kS_FP15Rwg/s400/IMG_1000.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5331722785082386818" border="0" /></a>John's parents met my dad, grandparents, and family for the first time. If you used our real names, whoever caught you could take the bells from your around your neck. I was winning until my... eh hem..so-called best friend and maid of honor caught me talking about "John's" house. ;) This is me pouting and Jenny taking all my bells. She ended up winning the game by having all the bells by the end of the night...despite Uncle Rex's constant hovering and best efforts to distract her. We are going to St. Lucia in the Caribbean Islands. Friends and family are welcome to come with us and stay at any of the other islands. :) We decided to stay at two different resorts for the week. For the first few days, we're going to do a Sandal's all-inclusive stay.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.caribbeanmag.com/images/hotels/full/287/views2.jpg"><img alt="http://www.cruiselandtravel.com/lu-001.jpg" src="http://www.cruiselandtravel.com/lu-001.jpg" /></a><br /></div>The resort is right on the water and I hear they even have butlers that will swim through pools to bring you drinks. Fun!! It'll be nice to relax on the beach after the busy-ness of the wedding! John wants to do some snorkeling, but I'm a little nervous to be swimming with the fishes nibbling at my legs...but I might be brave for him.<br /><br /><img alt="http://www.abnresorts.com/images/sandal-4.gif" src="http://www.abnresorts.com/images/sandal-4.gif" /><br />After a few days of unwinding, we should be ready for a new adventure, so we're staying at Ladera, which is a resort set up in the mountains of St. Lucia. The rooms at Ladera have only three walls, the fourth opens right out to the cliffs, the mountains, and the ocean. The views look AMAZING! Once we're up in the mountains we can take volcano tours, go to the local towns, take zipline rides through the rain forest...it should be fun!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/00428/travel-graphics-200_428435a.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/00428/travel-graphics-200_428435a.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><img src="http://images.forbestraveler.com/media/photos/400/221-ladera-g.jpg" alt="Ladera St. Lucia - St. Lucia" border="0" height="280" width="425" /><img src="http://www.thebigday.com/i/promo/Promotion559.jpg" alt="Ladera - Description" border="0" width="265" /><br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;">We even have a gift registry set up at the Ladera resort if you're looking for a unique wedding gift. This is the church I grew up in and had my first teaching experiences with vacation bible school and praise time. It's a beautiful church filled with loving people and good memories, so we're thrilled to be getting married there. My Grandpa Love (my mom's dad) is a member of this church still and has often performed dove releasing ceremonies for special events there. He has offered to release his doves after our wedding on the front steps of the church. The doves symbolize many things...peace, the Holy Spirit, God's love, commitment, and everlasting love...What a great way to start our marriage! :)<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.momisteaching.com/wp-content/uploads/dove.gif"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 187px; height: 167px;" src="http://www.momisteaching.com/wp-content/uploads/dove.gif" alt="" border="0" /></a>Click here for a map to the church: <a href="http://tinyurl.com/dmxfjn">http://tinyurl.com/dmxfjn</a><br />Address: 200 W Mansion St, Marshall, MI<br /><br />Parking: Most people park on Mansion street or in the parking lots behind the main street stores. The groom, groom's men, and ushers will be wearing Calvin Klein's Two-Button Super 100's Notch Lapel. We also decided on a color: Peridot.<br /><br />Danielle wanted yellow, but I thought all the guys would look like bumble bees.<br /><br />We chose green because we both went to MSU (GO GREEN! GO WHITE!) and I want to see my brother wearing green and white since he went to that school down the road.<br /><br />I went with black shoes, but it was a tough decision. They also had black and white shoes that looked nice. Let me know what you think. We'll take a poll in the comments, but people actually wearing the shoes will be counted twice. It really is a beautiful town and a great place to grow up. We're excited to have our wedding there. Just in case there is a pause in wedding festivities, here are some things you can see in Marshall.<br /><br />The first picture is the most recognizable landmark in Marshall, the Brooks Memorial Fountain. It's basically the center of town, set in a small park in the middle of a round-about. It is designed after Marie Antoinette's "Temple of Love" in Versailles France. It will be a beautiful place to take wedding pictures, but it's also I nice place to grab an ice cream cone from downtown and relax on the park benches. At night, the fountain changes color and my sister and I used to run around the circle and have races cued by the colors.<br /><br />The next picture is of Marshall's most famous restaurant, Schuler's. There is an English style pub on one side of the restaurant and a restaurant on the other side. The restaurant use<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.marshallmi.org/images/attractions/114-schulers%20john%20med.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 270px;" src="http://www.marshallmi.org/images/attractions/114-schulers%20john%20med.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>d to really big deal back in it's hay day, but now it's more of a local flavor. It's still a really nice place with a unique charm<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.marshallmi.org/images/attractions/118-nhi%20frontnight.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 460px; height: 248px;" src="http://www.marshallmi.org/images/attractions/118-nhi%20frontnight.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a> and good food. We are having our rehearsal dinner here. It's a few blocks away from the church, so it should be a nice walk through downtown Marshall from the church to the restaurant.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />The next picture is of the National House Inn which is a historic inn next to the fountain circle. We will be posting hotel information later this week, but if you want the true historic Marshall experience, you could always stay here!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.marshallmi.org/images/attractions/109-gar.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 311px; height: 252px;" src="http://www.marshallmi.org/images/attractions/109-gar.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>Marshall is a historic town with many beautiful old houses and an old fashioned downtown district. It's fun to drive down mansion street and see some of the old homes and walk down main street to visit the shops. Marshall was almost the capital of Michigan, so you can also spend some time visiting historical museums like the governor's "mansion" (it's not that big!), the civil war museum, the one room school house, and so on. The best time to do these things is during "Home Tour" when people dress up and give tours, but I think you can go at anytime. We mostly went to these places as school field trips, so it's been a long time!<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.marshallmi.org/images/attractions/120-kids_kingdom_close_cleanup_400.2008.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 324px; height: 244px;" src="http://www.marshallmi.org/images/attractions/120-kids_kingdom_close_cleanup_400.2008.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>South of town, there is a park called Ketchum Park, which would be a fun place for the kids to play. Apparently they have a new playground too! We just used to play with rocks by the river in the park and swing on the swings. Looks like they're sprucing the place up a bit.<br /><br />There is also a new boardwalk along the Kalamazoo River which is a nice walk. My mom's dogs love it! :)<br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/200/476604856_7ca340e102.jpg?v=0"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 330px; height: 247px;" src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/200/476604856_7ca340e102.jpg?v=0" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />For food, you have to get a doughnut or a cookie from Louie's Bakery. Any person born and raised in Marshall has been ruined for life when it comes to doughnuts because nothing compares to Louie's. We always have nutrolls with breakfast on Christmas morning and their pumpkin cookies (shaped like pumpkins, not made of pumpkins) are my favorite sugar cookies of all time. You should definitely stop by for a treat. Another fun thing to do is to go to the Highlight Drive-In for milkshakes and other fried treats. I haven't been there in a long time, but they used to have 100 milkshake flavors...the last one I had was Pepsi flavored. We have a couple of good sandwich places. Our Mancinos is the best Mancinos I've had and one of our family friends just started a shop called "Pastrami Joe's." Both are excellent sub shops. The Dark Horse bar has fantastic pizza too.
